Hairy Male Armpit
The huntsman, a social spider, is native to Australia, but can also be found in other areas of the world. When not hanging around with its own species, it might just make its way indoors where it can be found scurrying out from behind the curtains or hanging from the ceilings.
How to Recognize a Huntsman Spider
Huntsman spiders are generally quite large with a leg span of approximately 9” to 11”. Often the huntsman spider is confused with a tarantula, but they can be positively identified by studying their legs. The huntsman’s legs are jointed vertically, and twisted so they extend in a forward direction, much like the legs of a crab. Many huntsman spiders are hairy, and tend to be dull shades of either brown or grey, but some huntsman species do come in other colors.
